After spending our first two days in the End of the World off-roading and penguin watching we really thought we have already seen the best of it. But Nature decided to prove us wrong. We've planned our third day for climbing Glaciar Martial. Named after the explorer Luis Fernando Martial, chief of the French expedition that reached the area with scientific purposes in 1883, it is the most important source of fresh water in Ushuaia. Glaciar Martial lies 1050 meters above sea l
My excitement of going to Ushuaia was as high as our plane flying over Argentina getting there. Although it was impossible to see anything but vast land, I was always glued to the airplane window. Every flight is like a first to me! There is something so magical in Patagonia. Is it the snow in summer time, its proximity to Antarctica with animals we see only in a zoo or its almost never ending days with breathtaking sunsets? Yes, Ushuaia is a one of a lifetime experience.
During our second day in Buenos Aires we went for a walk from Palermo (where we were staying) to La Boca - the colourful neighbourhood that breathes tango. This is the day we walked for 23km around the city. And thanks to its beauty it felt really like a lovely walk. On our way we passed (again) on Microcentro and further South on San Telmo. Here we stopped for a visit at El Zanjón de Granados - a unique urban architecture site of old brick tunnels labyrinth, sewers and ciste
Armação dos Búzios is located around 180km East from Rio de Janeiro. Until the 1960s it was just a small fishermen village until Bridget Bardot visited it with her brazilian boyfriend. This is how Búzios got on the spotlight and became a fancy vacation resort. Today here is a bronze statue of the french actress on the main beach front avenue, named after her. In the same area there is another statue, honouring village's fishermen. Búzios is still a relatively small town and s
We all have seen dancers perform tango. And what about the iconic scene from Scent of a Woman where blind Al Pacino romantically (and also so dramatically) dances tango with beautiful Donna... Yes, tango is passion! But actually, in history, tango was a way to drown the pain. In the 1880s many european men arrived to Buenos Aires to seek fortune. The different way of life as well as the homesickness led them to bars, where they cavorted with waitresses and prostitutes, thus c
It is so easy to fall in love with Buenos Aires. The organised one way streets, french-influenced architecture and scent of blossomed linden trees are everywhere, as well as the Parrilla's (typical argentine beef-restaurants) and of course the great wine. The city is all flat which makes it is very convenient for tourists like us who just love city hiking. We were getting around mostly walking (the second day we walked 23km!) and when the distance was quite big - we were usin
